New Unit Chaplain...
Mar. 13th, 2011 07:23 pm...is a BUDDHIST MONK.
No, you're not hallucinating. Monk Nguyen is from a temple in Long Beach. After September 11, some of his disciples urged him to become a chaplain because there were no Buddhist ones. He enlisted and spent time as a 42A (administrator) so he could "learn about the Army". Then he submitted his credentials and was commissioned.
He held meditation at the same time the Evangelical, KJV-only chaplains were having their service. They were downstairs, we were upstairs. I think this is going to make a difference.
Good drill weekend. There was a minimum of idiocy and I was pleased by not wanting to kill someone by the end of the day. I got a lot of work done and we did some good PT, which is always a plus.
