Aug. 22nd, 2004 03:50 pmYesterday I bitched about beach volleyball being put in as sexist sport fanservice. The female players, as you may have seen, are all in bikinis. I mentioned this to Steve who said, "Well, in something loose they would get their uniforms full of sand, I guess."
This afternoon he calls to me and says, "Hey, your theory has been proven correct." I looked at the TV and the mens' beach volleyball team was in baggy shorts and tank tops.
I've complained a lot about the Olympic committee being run by sexist swine. If it's not gyno checks to make sure athletes are female (how come they never check to make sure, say, male figure skaters are male?) they're insisting they wear little skirts to skate in and segregating sports where men and women could easily compete against each other, like archery and shooting. Not that I pay that much attention to the Olympics to begin with (except for the really scary winter sports, so I can root for the Puerto Rican toboggan and luge teams--they exist), but this just underscores I'm not missing much except for a reminder that feminism hasn't won yet.
