Oct. 8th, 2005 04:41 pmI wasn't going to post again till I got back to San Diego, but figured, oh why not. I'm at my parents' house at the moment and their friends are over so no one is trying to talk to me. Good moment to post.
A lot has happened. I've been very successful as a soldier, and now feel like I've actually *earned* those Specialist's tabs on my collar. I'm very thin and very strong. I have a confidence I never felt before and am ready to take on the world.
It really was like entering a pre-Vatican II convent. We had our breviary and holy books (the IET Soldier's Handbook among other texts including FM 22-5 Drill and Ceremony), our saints (the dead after whom all the ranges were named), our rituals (reciting the Soldier's Creed every morning, saluting the flag), our Holy Habit (our battle dress uniforms), our prayer beads (hydration beads), and heaven knows we did penance!
On the other hand,
badira died three weeks after I left. The autopsy revealed that she'd been hiding cancer for years. She was probably waiting for me to be gone so she could die without me fussing. What a Will she had! I would say "we'll not see her like again" but if I know that rotten little bitch, we will. Don thinks she might even reincarnate into a few bodies, not just one.
There's going to be a new Hellsing series! The PX sells Anime Insider magazine, and I read it there. Since the manga is now up to 10 volumes, it's enough for a full length series, and best of all, the producers KNOW THERE IS A WESTERN MARKET and want to get the show to us ASAP. None of this gaijin-phobia and refusal to take our money like Bandai and SquarEnix show.
I've read the latest Harry Potter novel. That's old news, but it was out for over a month when I finally bought it. Wasn't surprised by the character who died at the end; WAS surprised and thrown off-base by Harry's decision as to what he'd be doing now.
I have weekends off now, and will be spending them at my parents' place, so I hope to be around more. Now, to download AIM to Mum's computer....
