Warning: Fanfiction ahead

So I got through the scene that was making me hesitate on "Another Man's Son". Now my challenge is to show passage of time by presenting things in an episodic manner while keeping it interesting. Nobody needs or wants to read about ever fireguard Char and Garma pull, (and Garma's insistence that he be treated like everyone else has just scored him and Char fireguard every night for a week) or every class, or every FTX, etc. So I have to be very selective while keeping things moving.

I'm falling into my habit of background characters going nameless, which is what I always end up going back and fixing later. So if you want to name Char's and Garma's training cadre (and if anyone knows what such people are called at any of the US military academies or in Canada, tell me, because I know they are NOT drill sergeants) tell me please. I probably won't use the term per se, but adapt it. "Cadre" is clumsy to use.

Running time now, then off to Orange County to kill Tony.

We went up to Orange County, hitting the swap meet first so Steve could get a bunch of toiletries that are cheapest there. I also got socks. We got in for free because of my military ID, which I rape every single chance I get.

We had a good visit with Steve's dad and took him out to lunch. Thursday was Steve's mom's birthday, so we visited her at the nursing home where she lived. Steve's mom is not so good. She doesn't know who I am anymore, for instance, and it's very sad.

I talked on the phone to my own mum on the way up; my grandmother, who is in much the same kind of shape, is in the hospital with heart arrhythmia and fluid in her lungs. She's stable though, and going back to her own nursing home Monday if she's the same or doing better. To quote something my mum said a year ago or so, "We want to live a long time for THIS?"

On the upside, we went to Fry's and I'm now the proud owner of a POWER SQUID! It's a kind of multiple outlet with all the outlets on cables coming out of it. I got it for the name, but I'll bring it to the SF Meetup. It must be seen and adored.

I also just re-read "V For Vendetta" in anticipation of the movie.

I feel like there is something I must be doing, but I've no idea what it is. I hate that feeling.
