Morning blood offering! (Not menstruation related)

Today I was prepping for tonights beef stew. My Chinese cleaver slipped and I got a nice slash right across the fingernail of my left ring finger.

Yeah, it hurt. Still does.

As I was standing there with my bleeding finger, I thought, "I'm supposed to do something with this, what is it?"

I couldn't hear what my remote Aztec ancestor was saying, so I just put pressure and a bandage on it.

(This btw is one of the reasons I don't worship my ancestral deities...I do not want to slash my earlobe or fingertips every morning during morning prayer! That and the Geneva Convention prohibits sacrificing your prisoners.)

Ouchie update

It took SIX HOURS to stop bleeding. [livejournal.com profile] americanstd had the car today, so we drove by Target for Bactine and Band-Aids. I changed the bandage whenever the visible blood spot on it got big enough and it wasn't until this afternoon that the bleeding finally stopped.

I don't know if I'll lose the nail or not. I might. I'm just glad I hadn't cut anything but vegetables with the cleaver, I would not want meat bacteria in a cut under my nail. Furthermore, my nail kept the cleaver from taking off the whole joint of my finger. I'm a lucky Rat indeed.
