On top of everything else, when I looked at my cell phone yesterday there was a message from a Special Investigator, no doubt about my interim security clearance. He wanted me to call him "immediately". Since it was already 1730 PST (he was calling from San Diego) I left a message apologizing, but that today I am defending my doctoral dissertation and it would be impossible for me to call until Thursday, between time change and meetings with advisors.
I *knew* this would happen due to Murphy's law.
I started today by going out for a bottle of white wine to bring for the reception. We brought a 5-litre box of red from California. What Lil told us was true; tell the Customs & Immigration guy you have over legal limit for alcohol and if it's wine he'll wave you through in Quebec.
Off to pack my stuff and get into my suit. I'm taking the Metro to school while Steve and Lil prepare for the reception. I meet with dissertation advisor at noon and I'm praying real hard she brings a car because I don't feel like mountain-climbing in my good gray suit.
