Steve asked me what I wanted to do. I said I wanted to go to the mall and go shopping. He said that was odd, because I don't like malls, but I reminded him that my past two months have been odd.
So we hit the big-box stores in Mission Valley. First was Target, for bras that weren't sports bras. Then after a Corner Bakery lunch (cause Pei Wei wasn't open till noon, dammit) we went to Borders. GLORY! I picked up "Nordic Runes" by Paul Rhys Mountfort because it has a proper and acceptable bibliography, "American Gods" because I'm overdue for reading that, and finally a book I'd been meaning to find again for years, "Kristen Lavransdatter" by Sigrid Undset. "Kristen" is a Nobel-winning novel written in Norwegian, is a cradle-to-grave story of the title character who lives in 13th century Norway. I read it in high school and adored it. Now there's a new, uncensored translation, and it weighs a ton in its 1128-page splendour but I'm dragging it along anyway.
In Ali, I had "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett in my backpack. However I found a Star Wars novel ("Order 66") on a bookshelf and swapped it out. Hee. And I'm still working on "Mechanicum".
Next was Bed, Bath and Beyond which I'd only been to once with
desert_vixen. We went in, got what I needed and got out, I think because MV was getting cranky. Steve and I Shopped and found ourselves asking how we've lived without this store for so long. I got an eye mask so the morning sun wouldn't wake me up, a gadget for cleaning blinds, a hangar for belts for Steve and a Snuggie! I figure a blanket with sleeves is just the thing for watching movies or reading in my freezing cold tent.
Today I go to Steve's office to help him a little, then I need to find something fun to do this evening.
