lady_kishiria: (Christmas)
Steve and I were originally planning on going to Hooters for Thanksgiving, seeing as we had no invites or other plans. However I'd started my day with a 90 minute spin class at Miramar and I'd seen a flyer on a bulletin board for Thanksgiving dinner at the Kearney Mesa VFW. When we got hungry, we swung over there. The meal for us was free because I'm already a member of the VFW.

The hall is occupied by some very elderly folks. I think I might be the youngest, the next-youngest being some late 50ish Vietnam vets. We had our turkey dinner and watched the Cowboys get their asses handed to them. I was filling out a membership application for the VFW hall itself when an older lady was very insistent that I was filling out the wrong application, that that was for the MENS' group. Steve got fairly irate since hello, assumptions are being made. She kept talking to him about his needing to join the mens' group and my needing to join the auxiliaries. It took quite some time to make her realize that I'm the veteran and he's the spouse! We both run into this a lot as when I was giving my TriCare info to the doctor's office and they asked for Steve's social security number because obviously he was the sponsor and I was the spouse.

They do mix a very strong drink there, though.

I figure I should attend meetings since I'm the way of the future when it comes to veterans.

I missed the Thanksgiving Day parade since it was re-aired at a weird time in the afternoon, but it's official now. Here come the holidays!
