Drill Weekend Day 2
Dec. 4th, 2010 03:35 pmHoly mackerel, it was cold. The ceremony was at 8:45 in the morning, when the temperature was 50s perhaps; it's only 62 now at day's high, overcast and damp. We were out there for about an hour and a half; two rehearsals and then the event itself. As MC I kept the ceremony moving along and everyone thought I did a great job. It's tempting to say, "Meh, a chimp could have done it," and then I remember that I'm a freak who doesn't get stage fright and doesn't mind speaking in public.
Like I said, it was cold. Even my Canadian blood gave out after a while because ACUs don't have a winter variation and we don't have the wonderful, wonderful fleece jackets we had in Afghanistan. By the end of the ceremony I was shivering, which I normally don't do and even now I'm still trying to get warm. I *was* going to go to the gym, but I only brought shorts, not sweatpants. I'll do exercises in my hotel room.
But now I have a long stretch of hours with little to do. Hotel internet can't usually handle streaming video or I'd watch a movie or two. There's church at 1730, but after that I don't know.
