Casino Royale
Jun. 4th, 2011 09:18 pmI can't believe I didn't love this movie. Instead, I really disliked it.
Daniel Craig does fine as Bond, and I like his chemistry with Dame Judi Densch. And...that's about where my fondness for the movie ended.
I mean, did they even read the books or know any of Bond's bio? This Bond is unprofessional in the extreme and a complete loose cannon. James Bond is a Royal Navy commander, for pete's sake! While he likes his alcohol, tobacco and the ladies, he's still disciplined and aware of his position as servant of the Crown.
The plotline didn't make a heck of a lot of sense, once a plotline made itself evident. It took a long time getting around to that. The pacing was also very bad and the movie ended up suffering from Saturday Night Live Syndrome, which is not knowing when a scene has gone on too long.
"Quantum of Solace" is 107 minutes to "Casino Royale"'s 144. That's a little short for a Bond film, but I hope it means that it's tight. I've added it to my Netflix queue.
