I'm an E4. I make more money in my job right now than I would Active. Nonetheless, I do have a Release To Active Duty application in; I put it in during the months I couldn't find work and I haven't taken it back Just In Case.
I'd agree with you about womens' roles in combat being redefined if it weren't for this "LALALA I CAN'T HEAR YOU," reaction from the federal government. Women are in combat every day, but there's this ongoing denial that it's happening. Even if women soldiers are out there fighting and being treated like soldiers by the men, I still hear that women can't be combat troops (even if in reality they are) because men won't accept them (even if in reality they do). You can't fight that kind of willful ignorance.
I'm always trying to do the right thing, take care of other people, make the world a better place, etc. I want to know what I did to deserve 10 months of being crapped on, then. It's hard to believe the nightmare that's been 2006 *might* be over.
