Sorry, I had to hop in here because I didn't want to repeat the "chickenhawk" reference and I dig what you all are talking about. I think the two terms do connect, in gay bars a chicken hawk isn't just someone who like younger guys, its someone who want to use their experience and power to take advantage of younger guys. Its a slam for exploitive people.
I think thats the same as the "Chickenhawks" like Dick Cheney and his ilk, who are happy to have other people (usually younger than themselves) go and get killed or kill to support their bottom line. They treat military members and their families with all the care and compassion that I treat my chess pieces.
I have been very, very vocal about my feelings on both of the wars we are currently in. However, I think that it is still important to provide support and whatever comfort we can to our troops. As the child of two Viet Nam vets I have seen some of the damage that the disregard shown by both chickenhawks and the antiwar movement can do to people. I think nothing is more damaging and moral repugnant to pretend that only part of a nation is at war. Like the graffiti I read: The Marines are at War, Americas at the Mall. Hey, even if the fighting isn't happening here WE ARE ALL INVOLVED.
I know there is probably more I could do; but, I try to do what I can (I used to be big witht the donations before I became broke). I am horrifed and disgusted that Americans are more concerned about Dancing with the Stars than care about the two wars we are currently involved in. I think that is being a Chickenhawk too.
