All mail to BAF is suspended because the gear of the mail plane struck potholes on the runway and the plane crashed. We only have one. The copies of Stars and Stripes are all from Wednesday because that was the last shipment in. God, I love this place.

My lords and masters gave me a day off so I've eaten toast (our DFAC up in the minefield has no toaster for some reason), fetched my brain candy and now I'm online. Since they cramped us together more in the tent, I need to get a three-drawer chest to put in the empty space between the head of my cot and the wall.

Boo hiss on [profile] electorprince losing his job, yay at the idea of his going back to school. Grad work should be done at UCSD though, doll. All the big companies are in California. In the meantime, go tackle people and serve them with pleadings from [profile] americanstd that they don't want to receive.

My problem is that all the fun things to report are classified. This sucks.

Going to try to go to Rosary and Stations tonight. It's also downtown, but that's okay, I'll put up with the long bus ride.

Oh, and I'm reading "The Virtue of Selfishness" by Ayn Rand. Woman was a crackhead. Reading her write about "altruists" doing things in order to be self-sacrificial is about as on-point as when Richard Dawkins writes about Christians, assuming all of them believe the Bible is taken literally.

Geez. I hope everyone in the plane are ok, that it gets fixed soon, and that they also fix the potholes on the runway. That's really not a place you want to have pot holes...

Good luck to [livejournal.com profile] electroprince with getting their master's (seriously, I don't mean that in a sarcastic way with the information I am about to provide). Things are looking bleak for education in California. There were protests over it all over the state today. They are talking about raising tuition by 32% (actually, according to that article, it was approved), CSU wants to reduce enrollment by 40,000 students, and there has been talk of eliminating departments. Hopefully, there will be some sort of solution to this so that what has been done can be reversed and what they're talking about doing doesn't happen. I don't know if this will affect graduate students at all, though. I imagine it will to some degree.

When mail can be sent again, I can send socks.

Also, I thought of you last weekend. I signed up for SakuraCon, an anime and manga con happening in Seattle. I needed a Con name for the badge. Because of my hurt right arm, and some more reading on the Norse Gods, I decided to go for the obvious - Tyr.

Take care!

Ayn Rand was a crackhead. I hate that everyone of a certain age who reads her goes though a phase of not realizing that. Impressionable youth...

I'm sorry it sucks. Let us know when it's okay to send things.

Funny you mention Rand. There was a recent article about her and her influence on the right wing on Alternet:

...I think I owe you an internet for this one...
