Gifts are bought and the tree is up. Photos to come; since our tree is short, I put a felt hat in the shape of a "Viking" horned helmet on the top to be funny. The cats aren't showing as much interest in it as I'd feared; Ivan is only interested in the cheap shiny ball ornaments that I bought to fill in places where I needed something but didn't want to use a nice ornament, like the back of the tree. He's only tipped it over once. Lalat seems appreciative, but not to the point of wanting to play with it.
I also discovered we have no less than four stockings. One of them is in blue felt with penguins on it. I like this stocking because it was sent in a care package to us-as-a-herd in Bagram, and they were nice stockings with useful things in them. It is hanging under the mantelpiece with two other stockings.
In other household news, I have decided to take a free class on painting at Home Depot and experiment in the master bathroom. I've selected sea-green as the theme, and intend to put up pictures of fish and seashells and things like that. Today at ReStore (the shop operated as a fundraiser for Habitat for Humanity) I picked up a used medicine chest that I can adapt to the theme. The master bath currently has no medicine chest, so it'll go up before the paint does. I'm looking forward to this.
