Steve was looking on Redfin and found a place across the 8 from Qualcomm going for within our price range. We were there at 1:00 when it started showing, and I thought we were going to have to have our own little rendition of the Hunger Games given all the vicious-looking house speculators roaming it with their real estate agents. We put in our offer at about 4 pm this afternoon.

We'll rent the condo, which was always the plan. But we really want this house. It's 3 bedrooms with 2 baths. The bedrooms are a little small, but the great room is enormous. The kitchen has a gas stove, which I've been missing.

But the backyard! It's not giant, but large enough, with a sturdy shed that's 100 square feet or so, two very old pepper trees, and a tire swing hanging off the larger one. There's a covered deck. There's room for a garden. It's everything I could want in a back yard.

The first guy who came in with us said he hated the trees, and I had said already I loved them. I hope the trees can have some good nature-magic influence in our favour.

That sounds lovely. Fingers, toes, good energy and prayers go out for you both. I wish someone would buy david's house.

That annoys me when people buy houses, hate the trees, and rip them out. They were there first, you know? People next door to where I grew up tore up a *huge* oak tree because they didn't like the acorns. Very sad.

Good luck. Not a fan of pepper trees; they dump a lot of debris, but trees are trees. Wouldn't say no to them if the yard was worth it!

If it's not a foreclosure or a short sale, maybe your love of the trees will make a difference to the sellers. I hope you get it!

Why would anyone hate trees? They reduce cooling bills in the summer and serve as a windbreak in the winter.
