Genetic Results

I was able to access my genetic journey from National Geographic. Women can only trace their maternal lines, and interestingly mine did not lead straight back to Africa as I thought, but to Native Americans. Then I remembered that Puerto Rico had a native culture until they all died from slavery and disease. I figured that my maternal genetic past would point to a dark and tragic past and it did, just not the one I expected.
My mom is Puerto Rican. Her mom is black, and has always been kind of a copper shade. (There are pictures of me, my mom and my grandmother on my FB if you have access to that.) I've seen some very faded photos of my great-grandmother and great-grandfather. They were both black; great-grandfather looked like a 19th-century Bob Marley. I figured my maternal line would run in a direct line back to west Africa, but it didn't.
So yes, my last four sets of ancestors on my mom's side were black slaves, but before that there were unfortunate Taino women. Here's an article on it:

Hail the ancestresses. I hope you are at peace.
