Doin' the Army thing

I'm here in Orange County until next Wednesday. I have a lot of Annual Training to do lest I have a "bad year", plus two days RST. I've been here since last Thursday.

I'm doing my ALC online portion in the mornings, and in the afternoons I'm engaged in "Operation Pull the 11th's Fat out of the Fire". As you may remember, in June of 2013 I said "Fuck you" to the 11th. Ma'am had left it for the 78th and the command had switched, bringing in the guy I refer to as First Sergeant Hitler. The day I left, I took all the separation packages I had in my office, put post-it notes on them to indicate where in the process they were, and departed.

On Monday I walked into that office 14 months later and they were still there.

The office was frozen in time. I couldn't decide if this was like the aftermath of a disaster, or like a shrine to my efficiency.

The JAG office no longer has any computers. Don't ask me; I have no idea. I brought one over from the 78th, since it's next door, and have been cranking out legal analyses.

I'm going to be working here on my birthday, which is Sunday. Although this is not my first birthday away with the Army, and it won't be my last I'm sure, I am unusually sad about it this time.

It's been a long time since we talked outside of bookface or journalspace; give me a call if you want - I'd call you, but I'm not sure that the number I have for you is the one you have now - my number is still the same.

My number hasn't changed since about 2007. If it has 788 in it, that's the correct one. I still hope sometime you'll come and visit; it's hot and dry here, but the people are so nice and there is actually work to be had. Plus it's cheap; a one bedroom apartment in a nice complex is about $500. We are trying to lure the Electorprince here because we are very sure he'd love it.

Oh, wow. The sight of all those post-its must have confirmed that you were followed by nincompoops and incompetence. Let's smush them together to form nincompetents!

Sorry you'll be away for your birthday, but you know that gives you the right to celebrate until Labour Day (yes, I just made up that loophole).
