Jul. 26th, 2004 05:34 pmI'm allegedly working on my dissertation, but I've done about two pages out of the ten I want done by tomorrow, so this isn't too horrendous. I was flattered to be asked to join an LJ community called
peacevets based on a post I wrote on
bush_sucks about how people who think it's okay to be in Iraq seem to believe that the soldiers they see on TV are just animatronics. I posted on a conversation I had in the Post Office with someone who thought it was horrible of me to think the war is bullshit, but shrugged at the fact that I was sending a care package via APO (Army Post Office) to a human being over there. Animatronics don't need love, books, or fresh-baked brownies, right
jamesla?
So that's keen. Afterwards, we took the car to get its alignment fixed and found a place called Baba's Cafe on Convoy for lunch. It's in the same strip mall as Nijiya Market, across from the Carl's Jr. The place was industrial in the extreme and I could tell Steve was sketching about eating there, but the food was AMAZING. I am trying to go vegetarian again, and my felafel were crisp and light and really good. Steve said his gyros were the best he'd had so far in SoCal. They sell something like 12 varieties of hummus, including cilantro and roasted red pepper, two of my favourite things.
After, Steve took me to Boot Barn since I needed new jeans. Wrangler's just introduced a new line of jeans for women called Aura. They stretch and have lots of room in the crotch which most womens' jeans don't. They look great on me, but I was more than a little perturbed that I take a...size 4. WTF? I used to be an 8! I attribute this to clothes manufacturers starting to just make clothes bigger and bigger, which is why really skinny girls take things like size 0, which is just wrong.
Home again home again, back to schoolwork.
