Oct. 9th, 2004 09:29 amAfter a week, I'm on page 28 of the last chapter of my dissertation. This is not where I wanted to be. I know the time I cranked out a 30 page chapter in 4 days I was a wreck for two weeks after, but I don't CARE I want this first draft out of my house! I did exercise yesterday, which is a key thing when trying to get a project like this done (increases oxygen to the brain and throughout the whole body) but otherwise I feel like I've been neglectful of my life for little return. Although on Tuesday I had housework and cooking to take care of, truth be told.
Yesterday, Bean and I went downtown to check out an event that was described as "against mainstream media". When we got there it was the "I wanna be Che Guevara" crowd and the band were guys who delivered political rants in poetry accompanied by a band, so we went to Dizzy's.
Dizzy's had a mambo band going on, but it was the same one we'd seen last time we were there. Still, those guy kick ass, so we stuck around to hear them anyway.
There's no way I can start working (for money) until January, but I'm kind of looking forward to doing it. Besides the obvious advantage of bringing in RENT MONEY, I would like to start purchasing more music. Bean commented last night that Limewire was getting wonky in its connection and I noticed that last night. Plus as I've mentioned to other people, I'm getting really into the sounds of non-European cultures (listening to a Puerto Rican band right now, I have 4 bhangra CDs in my collection at this point, and I've been interested in getting some Afghan music since seeing a documentary on the slow rebirth of music in Afghanistan now that the Taliban are gone.
Does anyone know where I could buy an Irish tin whistle?
