Jul. 12th, 2003 11:31 amFirst, a request:
Could someone please send SteveO (aka the American Standard) a code so he can get an LJ? Thank you.
Next, I think I might have a job. I went to a company here that deals in wholesale floor covering. I was thinking, this sounds like a loser job, and thought about ditching the interview, but it´s a company whose mission statement is to be a humane and ethical company. The woman who manages the store is a known San Diego artist who has restored Catholic religious statuary and started the interview with, ¨I know you´re doing your dissertation, but do you think you could be happy here?¨
It´s data entry, starting out 50 cents an hour less than what I want, but the hours are right and the people are nice. Steve had somehow come to the conclusion that the customer service job for Direct TV, which pays the $10/hr I´m looking for but which is open from 5 a.m to 10 pm Monday through Saturday, actually paid $16/hr. I said no, and if they did I would be more than happy to work any godawful shift they asked. But a godawful shift for $10/hr is trumped by a nice shift for $9.50/hr. Especially when there is room for advancement.
I was told to think about whether or not I would want this job, and to call back on Monday. So I am thinking.
