Well, the library is closed, so I guess I will go to Gay Pride anyway. I just have to find a cool outfit.

I am watching Mexican TV from Tijuana. I breathe for the commercials. First off, there is an ad for a hemerrhoid medicine, and it´s called Nikson. C´mon already, the guy is DEAD. Can´t he rest in peace? :P Second was a government ad showing Mexicans ranging from office people to Natives to normal types on crutches (wheelchairs are rare), to crazy street people, thanking the committee that over sees the elections to prevent their being corrupt. Well, one of the people thanking them was an Anime Latino. I mean, it was a Mexican girl animated in Japanese style. I missed THAT while I was down there! But I was in Puebla, maybe this ethnic group lives in Mexico City?

Well, if memory serves, there's a pretty sizable Latino population in Japan, mostly the descendants of foreign laborers, but I was given to understand that they're mostly from Brazil.

Maybe I'm wrong, though.

Actually, I was talking about a population of Anime characters in Mexico.

Brazilians are in a weird boat. They are Latinos, but not Hispanics. They usually just identify as Brazilian and leave the Latino title to the Spanish speakers.

Brazil was conquered by Portuguese people. Acutally, Spain gave the Portuguese the right to conquer and evangelize a part of America in the XVI century, either that or they'd have a war. Because supposedly, according to the Pope (who had in those times enormous power; people thought that royal authority came from God itself,and the Pope is the representant of God... do your maths) only the kingdoms who spread the Word of Catholic God would be really allowed to conquer the New World. (In those times there was no Protestantism still; it happened some time before Marthin Luther).

I'm sorry I can't explain more, but a better explaniation would have to come fully in Spanish and I don't have handy more info. But those are the basics. Portugal got a part of South America to colonize and influence, and that's Brazil.
