So we went to mass today to find it's Fetus Worship Day. January 20 is the anniversary of Roe v. Wade and Catholic churches too often turn this into a great celebration of the all-wonderful fetus. The priest horrified Steve by saying that "abortion is not just one issue among many" and babbled on and on about how abortion is down (which it is) due to more restrictive abortion law (which is horseshit). Abortion is down because of BETTER SEX EDUCATION. In the bulletin, Steve noticed that a girl from his high school is now a speaker for a big pro-chastity group. "Was she a freak back in high school?" I asked. Steve said that indeed she was.

Just as I was about to twist my own head off in church, Steve said his feet were falling asleep. Given the kinds of problems Steve's been having lately, that's not a good sign, so we skeedaddled.

He feels better now, but gad I hope he and the doc can work this out soon.

Much fun was had last night when patgund came over with bad movies. caprine and her new beau duckflambe joined us. (And Caprine? You done traded UP!) I'll let you read the review of the movie "Jesus Christ: Vampire Hunter" on Pat's LJ. Greatest piece of cinema EVAH.

Can I just say, as a practicing Catholic, that I'm so fucking sick of hearing about abortion? Why is a fetus more deserving of protection than the hundreds of people in this neighborhood who're starving? And I love how the Judy Brown groupies try to justify that they can be pro-fetus and pro-death penalty and call themselves "pro-life."

Yes, abortion sucks. But so does not taking care of the people we already have on this planet.

What really annoys me is that the same people who piss and moan about needing to re-criminalize abortion are the same ones who'd rather fellate Bill Clinton than assent to the social programs that have proven effective alternatives to abortion, like day care and help to young mothers in school.

Judy Brown's the whackjob that EWTN has answering the pro-life Q&A bin. And, yeah, don't go giving them any social support to care for their child. Just cut them loose and expect to support themselves and a child, when they can hardly just take care of themselves...

I loathe those types of people. I could understand if they where against abortion AND the death penalty and military adventurism.

I heard on Daily Kos about a Benedictine nun on Bill Moyers' "Now" who accused evangelicals of simply being "pro-birth" since they abandon responsibility for maintaining infrastructure for decaying schools and health care, war dead and orphans, etc. They simply don't care for children after they exit the womb.

It also started a big thread on what to really call them. My favorite, since they also favor banning sex ed and contraception, in the mistaken belief that it'll stop underage, premartial sex, was the definitely Orwellian "Anti-Sex".

I say anti-choice or anti-abortion. I don't say pro-life because too many of those folks (not all) are all for the death penalty and love a certain president who has at least 60,000 deaths on his hands.
