(no subject)

As life would have it, I'm sick.

I got Steve to work and went to the gym to work out. While there, my intestines became really angry with me, and I had to rush home. Immodium has stopped most of the unpleasantness, but now I'm wrung out and groggy. I did get a little bit of editing done on this article, but I didn't finish it the way I'd hoped.

The silver lining is that as I was editing, I was thinking, "This is really good. Maybe I should contribute it to a more established journal than the one I've been considering." So I've sent off an e-mail to the Catholic Historical Review asking for their guidelines. Cross fingers.

No word from advisor, but I don't know if I should phone. If I don't hear from her, I'm writing to other advisor. I am very afraid of this seen as being game playing, but this is my life we're talking about here.

Anybody from the academic world got any insights?

I don't think my advisor would mind if I published something without his knowledge. Then again, I could go say, "Hi, John, I'm going to strap some papier-mache wings to my back and jump off the roof," and he'd be fine with it provided I had a good reason for doing so. :)

It's not publishing, it's asking her for a letter of reference for a job. Previously she said no, you need your PhD in hand first, but I know this is not the case in the States.

No answer, so I'm feeling adrift.

Most of the jobs in my field are either Ph.D, appropriate life experience, or ABD and soon to defend. Your Mileage May Vary, though, since music doctorates are still fairly new in some areas of music.
