The title is misleading. Yes, the Repugs are trying to keep women out of combat (which we're not officially supposed to be sent into anyway, but if the bad guys start firing, the bad guys start firing) which is in my opinion offensive and ridiculous. Why is my body more precious than [profile] thincat's or Shadow's just because it doesn't have the same reproductive organs? Some would give me the "potential mother" line but sorry Charlie, I'm 40 and that dog won't even BEGIN to hunt with me. But what are they supposed to do, keep women quartermasters from delivering materials to Falluja? Go ahead, make the job harder! Fucking Repugs.

However I call attention to the paragraph stating that the House bill intends to extend health benefits full time to Reservists. This of course interests me very much. I'm trying to find out what Congresscritters I need to contact to encourage this behaviour.

So? I know that [personal profile] caprine heard a speaker say that female prisoners of war get raped to death, but I haven't been able to find anything to back that up. Certainly it hasn't happend since before Gulf War I.

You know what I call that, I call that projection. Case in point: Abu Ghraib.

Despite the Pentagon's best efforts to say otherwise, it's been widely proven that Jessica Lynch was not analy raped and was treat rather well by her captors.

Even the incident with the downed helicopter pilot during the 1st Gulf War wasn't rape. Sexual battery, perhaps, but the farthest the Iraqi soldier got with her was a feel of the hair and a grope of the breast. I remember seeing an interview with her in a Gulf War retrospective, and she actually remarked on the incident as some sort of humorous ancedote.

I did a HUGE post back when the Jessica Lynch story broke about what it said about sexism and racism. I'll see if I can track it down because no, she wasn't raped. I concluded that this was another thing to get women to keep from recruiting using the threat of the Big Brown Man.

Mine was intended to be sarcastic. I have the utmost respect for women who serve.
