(no subject)

I need to call the stylist [profile] heyoka and [profile] seki_raku go to, but the week of June 1 at latest, I'm cutting the hair.

My only question is whether to just bob it to below my ears (what Steve refers to as "the anime girl cut") or to trim it into a style like [profile] ommkarja's "lesbian hair". Lesbian hair has the advantage of being megashort and fast to wash/out of my face and the anime girl cut facilitates me growing my hair back by simply not cutting it again.

Input from my friendslist?

As someone who had hair down to her waist for five years and spent the past two years chopping it little by little to "lesbian hair" length, perhaps I can help. I never liked my long hair: it didn't look good, I knew it didn't look good, but it became something like a third arm and I developed an emotional attachment to it. When I cut mine, I wanted it to look like Martina McBride's hair (even brought a picture), but it kind of...didn't. It was definitely so much easier and I'd never go back to the length I had before, but I'm glad that it's grown a few inches now. I don't think it looked very good because my hair has this weird not-quite-curly-but-definitely-not-straight thing going on, and it just looked like I'd slept on it wrong. My hair's maybe four to six inches long now and I like it, but long hair does not look good on me and I've become addicted to not having hair on my neck.

But if you're planning to grow it back, it might be better to go with something longer that you can still pull off your face. That's the only thing: if it's too short to put into a ponytail but long enough to be annoying, that could be a problem. I never realized how bothersome that was until I had hair that length myself. And personally, I hated having those short pieces of hair that constantly fall out and get in your face.

And of course, I've never seen you in person, so probably none of this will be very helpful, but I like talking about hair. I have totally gone and lost every shred of credibility I ever had now, huh?

Go to http://www.photobucket.com and to the gallery "kishiria". There's plenty of photos of me there.

Short hair like mine is easy to style and care for but requires regular haircuts. After about six weeks (my hair grows fast so YMMV) it's looking scruffy and starting to get in my eyes.

Oooh. Since Army haircuts are supposed to be the worst, that's a vote against hair like yours. Mine grows very fast too.

Should go bald. I'm a zero on the Kinsey scale, but even I have to admit that Natalie Portman bald is hawt.

Army would probably frown on that. Otherwise, don't think it didn't cross my mind, because Demi Moore with a buzz cut in GI Jane was hot.

Spike it out really huge and dye each spike a different color, so your head looks like a porcupine that's rebelling against its uptight, conservative parents.

=D

I'd go with the "lesbian hair", not only because it's practical, but do you really want to look like Frau Bow?

Actually if I get my hair cut that way and brush it to the side, I look like Garma Zabi.

I can see a pixie cut on you. It'll have the added advantage of very low maintenance while you're away for training.

That's what I had as a kid and until I left the US in 1990. Thing is, am I going to need a haircut DURING training if I get one, as [profile] ommkarja suggested.

This is true. The alternative is to get a cut that can easily be tied back away from your face. A bob is probably a better choice then.

Last summer I used to have long hair, but then I cut it to what you refer to as "anime girl" hair. Quite possibly one of the best decisions I have ever made. Not to much time to put into it, and plus I can do the long-bangs-cover-one-eye thing like my beloved (Ghinius).
