So...Duncan Hunter, R-Calif and [personal profile] patgund's congresscritter (though not who Pat voted for) managed to strip TriCare (health insurance) for Reservists and National Guards out of the latest defense bill.

Why is it that the Repugs do their damndest to hurt the Armed Forces and yet service people vote Repuglican more often than not?

Guess it's all those "Support Our Troops!" stickers on their cars. That shows their sincerity.

What?!?

WHAT THE FUCK. If not for TriCare, I would not have been able to go to the doctor for my sleep problems, for the ultrasound, for ANYTHING. This is the first time in over five years I have had any healthcare at ALL.

SO let me get this straight; they want people to serve their country but they don't want their families to have any sort of healhcare whatsoever when they can't afford insurance.

Outstanding.

Assholes.

Nice, isn't it? We had high hopes for this ourselves; Steve isn't an attorney yet, we have huge student loans to pay off, and having TriCare would have been a real help to us. FUCKERS.

It's crazy, the best thing for us financially is for me to get sent off on deployment. Unbelievable. I'm still glad I made this choice, but I know who to point fingers at for lack of support.

Well, deployment pay is good and all, but I have to say the TriCare has been a big help. Even if I opted for the outrageously expensive insurance here at work (which I can't really afford) the dental only covers up to $1000 - and since I haven't been able to go to one for so long, I predict many fillings. TriCare is the only reason I even went to the doctor when I found that lump, no way would I have been able to afford it otherwise.

Gah. When does this go into effect?

You might want to read over your private dental plan. I know my dental only covers $1000 also, but my exams and cleanings are *fully* covered and the insurance company (blue cross) waives the normal deductible and 20% I have to pay after I pay my deductible. It was a nice surprise when I first went to the dentist again (after 8 years)... the nicer surprise was only 2 small cavities, and 2 fillings that need to be replaced.

It won't take away your TriCare, it just doesn't give any to me when I'm not deployed.

Utterly lame, nonetheless. Way to take care of the men and women who sign up for this sacrifice.

The reason is simple. The GOP has managed to wrap themselves in God, Flag, and Country, and hijacked the those memes. (Case in point - the fact that Armed Forces Radio plays Rush Limbaugh, but no progressive talk show).

So, despite the fact that more members of the Democratic Party actually served in the military, despite performers like Al Franken who risk their lives to do USO tours in the field, (when was the last time you heard of Ann Coulter or Dennis Miller doing a USO tour?), and despite the Chaneys and Rumsfeld that are doing their rest to downsize the military, people have been told to support the GOP because they "support the troops and our military."

If they wanted to know how much the GOP really values the military, one needs to look no further than those disgraceful "purple heart" band-aids at the last GOP convention. "Support the Troops" my ass......
