Jan. 2nd, 2006 01:44 pmThis is New Year's Day (observed) since the true New Year's Day was a Sunday. Steve is off at the USD Law Library studying, so I'm taking advantage of having the house to myself for catching up on reading and DVDs.
(NB: For those unfamiliar with the layout, Steve's office and the TV room are in fact one double room. When we moved in, we put a wall of bookcases between the two, with the back of Steve's L-shaped desk giving him a window out into the TV room. Consequently, when he's studying I can't be watching television.)
So today I've watched another DVD of "Star Blazers" and the first disc of "Firefly".
electorprince need not fill those baby blues with tears as I like the show very, very much and he said he'd cry if I didn't. I've made disc 2 the next item on the Netflix queue.
I only watched two episodes out of the four on the "Star Blazers" disc. First was the "space whirlpool" episode which is crushingly dull and the last was the "Balanosaurus" episode which was crushingly stupid. In between was the Gamilons doing some harebrained thing, and the famous Bee People episode that was the first I ever saw of the series.
Once that was done (because even my recreation is goal-oriented) I decided I wasn't in the mood for more Kipling and picked up "The Oxford Illustrated History of the Crusades" that I'd ordered by accident and accepted as a Christmas gift to myself. To my disappointment, I realized that it's the same book I'd read in 2004, only with illustrations. Stupid Teppy! It's lavishly illustrated though, and that takes away a lot of the sting; I admit I like books with pictures.
The cats haven't been doing their jobs although Irina decided in the past few minutes to change this. Her Imperial brother is still crashed out on the bed but she's come to sit with me on the couch. It's blustery, wet, and chilly out there, so ideal conditions inside require someone four-footed and furry. "Gris Sum Sed Furrrmosa" (I am grey but I am furry) as
americanstd would say.
