Jan. 14th, 2006 01:29 pmI gotta pimp this movie, although it's not exactly easy to get. It's called "Tom Yum Goong" and it's a Thai martial arts movie starring one Tony Jaa:

Steve obtained it throught the Martial Arts Movie Fairy (kind of like the Unlicensed Anime Fairy who brought me my copy of the Zeta Gundam movie) and we watched it this morning. The plotline is that a humble Thai elephant herder has his favourite elephants stolen just as they're about to be given to the king of Thailand. Both because they were slated for the king as well as because he loves his elephant friends, Kham goes to Sydney, Australia to take on the Chinese mafia who have stolen them. Since humble elephant herders have superior Kuay Thai skills, he kicks ass.
The film looks great, particularly the scenes back in Thailand which are filmed with real affection and national pride, and the fight scenes are just spectacular. Plus
americanstd and I are both suckers for stories about people who love their animals.
Badira gives it an undead two-paws-up.
