Knock knock knock on my front door. I answer it, nice young man wanting to talk about "the pain of what happens after a person dies". I inform him that yes, my grandmother died last week---and she's with God. He smiles and I see the copy of "The Watchtower" in his hand. I feel my teeth starting to grow and get pointy. He says yes, that's what he wants to talk about. "The Jehovah's Witnesses believe in soul sleep," I rattle off, "which means that they lie in wait of a day when they will be resurrected out of the MEMORY of God. That's bullshit." I slammed the door in his face.

I'm applying for another job, so I'm reworking the resume. I hate this.

Door-to-door anyone piss me off, whether they're selling magazines, girl scout cookies (OK, maybe not them...much love for the thin mints), or religion. I have an especially short fuse for Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons. (Seems like the later group are more prevalent out here.)

I really loved the door-to-door sales of chocolate bars we did in school. What's the whole point of that? You don't even get the chocolate until months afterward. WTF?

"the pain of what happens after a person dies"

Me: *wearing my shirt with a big pentacle on it* Funny, I didn't think reincarnation was that painful or that you knew what was better for me to believe in than me myself. *slams door*

Guh. I can't stand anyone trying to push their beliefs on me as if I'm not allowed to think for myself.

I wasn't clear; the pain we (the living) feel after a person dies. JWs believe that after death we simply cease to exist until after the end of the world when God will call back 144,000 people out of his memory to live again. Given how many billions and billions of people have existed, those are not odds I'd want to take to Vegas.

As far as they're concerned, you're allowed to think for yourself, they just want you to be stupid enough to come around to their way of thinking. And they DO have one of the most fantastically stupid theologies I've ever heard of, short of the Mormons and Scientologists. (Once space aliens get involved, it's Game Over.)
