So I'm drinking my coffee with CNN turned on and I hear the commercial say, "blah blah blah internal Zeon processors".

That got my attention real quick. Apparently, Dell has a chip now called "Xeon" but pronounced "Zeon". This on top of an ad for alternative fuel for your GM.

Xeons are the beefier Intel chips that often show up server-class machines.

Zeon makes tires, too.

So I can drive an alternatively-fueled GM with Zeon tires? Wow!

The Intel Xeon versions of the Pentium Processors have been around for almost a decade. They usually have a larger internal cache...and a huge price tag.

Unless its something new I haven't heard about the Xeon processor is really a class of processor that has a much larger on-chip cache and usually scales beyond the traditional intel dual processor config. Its been around since the Pentium II. I haven't had a chance to play with a newer 8 processor config with hyperthreading but with the performance of newer chips and different architectures they aren't all that impressive. They still can kick some butt but I'll stick it out with my Alpha, SGI and UltraSparcs.
