Holiday Greetings

A very happy Samhain to all of my Celtic pagan friends! I apologize for not knowing if it's a holy day on the Norse calendar.

Here at the Bungalow we'll be celebrating Dia de los Muertos on Thursday. [profile] badira, will you be stopping by?

Well, happy Samhain to you, too, or I guess the technical all-inclusive term would be happy holidays . . . .

It's a series of days during which the veil is thin. Tonight is the feast before All Saints, tomorrow is the feast of All Saints when dead children arrive. All Souls is the day after and the adult dead return then. All the spirits depart at dawn on the 3rd.

Thanks for the info, that's really cleared up a lot of confusion on my part as to why the supposed one day holiday always seems to take longer. Have you ever noticed the event happening earlier or later on a particular year?

I only ever observe Day of the Dead on November 2 because that's when everyone else does it. AFAIK, the day is strictly adhered to. Since there's some evidence that the Dead prefer strict routines and keeping things the same (witness ghosts who become agitated when houses are renovated) that's probably why.

I didn't celebrate last year because I was at AIT without candles or food to offer, and I didn't in 2000 because I was deathly ill with pneumonia and feared that I might leave with the dead at dawn.

Yeah, I've definitely seen the agitated ghost thing. Our house has a spirit that's rather confused by tecnology, and she's caused a lot of grief for people who insist on using it.

Have you tried telling the ghost to go to the other side? The way I've always dealt with them is to just pray for them to have peace, and it's always worked for me.
