I told Steve today, I'm tired of waking up pissed off. Even if I'm not pissed off, I get in my car, struggle through the most hellish traffic I've ever seen (and I've seen a lot of it, buckaroos) through USA! and Free Iraq! bumperstickers which are usually though not always, paired up with Jesus fish and Pray For America and cross bumperstickers. Then I'm REALLY pissed off.

Thank God I'm a Catholic, so I worship the Virgin Mary.

But I swear, people in this area must be the most insecure Christians and Americans in the country. (I see way less of this shit in Orange County, a mere 90 minutes to the north.) I mean, what is WRONG with these people? Do they forget what country they are in so that they have to remind each other with flag stickers? Are they afraid that if they don't assault us with their christian-ness that they'll find themselves worshipping Satan or the like? I'm not surprised there is only one halfway decent bookstore in the city. Emphasis on the "halfway".

You'll note a lack of the "marriage is love" thing that's been going around. My reason is that marriage has nothing to do with love. It has to do with a contract for property transfer. It's ridiculous and legally illogical that two adults of the same sex cannot make this contract. Love, however, is completely incidental.

Love is a four letter word

Marriage is about two people who contract to share property and lives together regardless of how they feel. At times marriage involves the illusion of passionate love shared between the couple in question. There are even those who marry to allow the other person some social advantage - financial, political, etc. There's even the lust stupor marriage.

Love. I think other people have written far better about love than I can. I will say that to me, love means actively being in someone's life for their benefit, because you want to be with them. A person who loves another will do things for another simply to give kindness for another without thought for personal gain.

It's nice when the two come together, but fuck it's hard work.
