GREAT news!
Feb. 17th, 2004 07:19 pmAfter a hectic but overall okay day at work, I came home and collected the mail.
Happy Item #1 was a letter from Shadow. He's waiting for my parcel of books, as among the donated reading material, Eric von Lustbader was the most intellectual. (My gosh, PRISON libraries are better stocked!) He's taking photos to send out and I know he's living in fairly comfy digs in the Baghdad burbs.
However, he commented on the poor health of the Iraqis and said one of his characters, the one who represents his Ego, (as opposed to Superego and Id) would describe them as "chattel". This is his first time in the third world. I told him not to make the mistake of seeing them as chattel, because these people are as intelligent as any American, just without the advantages. Now there are people going around telling them, "Hey. You officially have nothing to lose." "Do not underestimate these people," I told him. "That attitude can be hazardous to your health." I can hear thepunkpanther's grunt of approval from here.
Now, the second, really big news....I GOT A SCHOLARSHIP FROM UNIVERSITE DE MONTREAL!!!!!!! Not very big, just enough to pay my rent one month here and then cover me in Tlaxcala for that month! I'm beside myself! I just have to make time to go down there, but I'm thinking August. I've been offered lodging, and I can work to pay my way at Maria's shop or on Lupita's farm. I would like very much to learn to plow using horses.
I was due, I was really due, and if the news from the LSAT comes back good, I'll feel my life has FINALLY turned the corner. Go me, go U de M, go La Virgencita de Ocotlan, whose influence I feel in all this.
