You Score as a Techno-Progressive

Techno Progressive

Techno-progressives actively support technological development and social progress, believing that technological developments can be profoundly empowering. Techno-progressives support regulation by democratic and accountable authorities that can ensure that the costs, risk, and benefits of new technologies are thoroughly exposed and shared by all stakeholders.

Techno-progressives feel that for technology and science to lead to the betterment of society, it must be responsibly advanced. Societal change must occur prior to technological advancement- technology shouldn't be and isn't the catalyst for societal change.

Some examples of the technology that techno-progressives view as having great potential for human benefit, but that must be carefully implemented to ensure that advancement does not further entrench the lower working classes as indentured servants of the rich are: technologies for longevity, stem-cell research, nanotechnology, advanced surgical techniques such as cosmetic surgery, and embryo selection.

Not surprisingly, I scored as a bio-luddite. I have reasons based in personal experience for being very skeptical and *extremely* cautious of what's considered "progress" in our culture. I could get into some woo-stuff that would further explain things but that would be best discussed somewhere less public. I did, interestingly enough, find the test notable for lack of questioning about stem cell research (which I support), and so on, but there are things I've seen particularly in medical "science" that have done more harm than good, and we don't need more of it.

To each their own, though. I'm libertarian enough that I really don't care what other people want to do to themselves so long as they don't force it on me as well. O_o

I draw the line at putting anything in my body. I said "yes" to the idea of taking something to stop cell degeneration, but I prefer to keep my body in its original packaging, even if it is too short.
