The article is pretty bad, as I said, but the comments are what I'm pointing to.

Mrs. Sommer behaved horribly after her husband's death. In fact, she was being a disgusting dirty slut. LAST I CHECKED, THIS WAS NOT ILLEGAL. Yet people are screaming that she should still be in jail--and remember, her sentence was 25-to-life. Obviously because she's a filthy whore, she MUST have killed him, even though there's no evidence at all. People don't just suddenly drop dead, right? We've never heard of that ever happening.

How sad. The whole thing was sad. His death, her behaviour, her trial, all of it.

A young Marine dropping dead should not be dismissed, but assuming the wife offed him isn't right, either.

I'm not "dismissing" it, but the fact is, young people do drop dead suddenly. The autopsy was botched, obviously, so he may have died of a congenital defect or the like.

One reaction I'm seeing is, "We still don't know what killed him, so blame her!"

Oh, no, not you. I meant there should be a medical investigation as to why a healthy young man keeled over.

Sorry that wasn't clear.

Someone posted a comment saying that his aorta was deformed, but I don't know how reliable that is.

If they arrested everyone who acted odd or did something stupid with death benefit monies, there would be no survivors outside of jail, srsly. She's not my kind of folks but she didn't deserve what she got... I wish her a happier life.

I generally ignore the open sewer that it is online commenting on newspaper articles. Just occasionally I dip into the cesspit that is the Amsterdam Telegraaf forum...
(And subsequently lose my last remaining shreds of faith in humanity)

Never heard of her, but after reading the article she just sounds like your typical military wife which, as you say, is not illegal.

"S/h/it didn't cry for his/her spouse! S/h/it dares to not care as much as *I* would do for MY spouse! OMG WTF BURN THE BITCH/ASSHOLE!"

Every time someone/something/a show comes up with that, I want to scream.

You're absolutely right about this.

Promiscuous sex -- while foolish in this day and age of AIDS and STDs -- is not illegal in the United States. If it were to become illegal, that would put away most politicians, Paris Hilton, and other notables.

Going on a wild sexual rampage after husband's death =/= murdering him.

People drop dead suddenly all the time.

I'm not going to touch the death penalty issue with a nine-foot pole but I will say in this instance it was less about fact and more about moral judgment clouding justice, which I have a problem with. Whether or not I find the promiscuity distasteful, I have an issue with it being used to obfuscate the details of a case.

Anyway, yeah.

I dunno, if I got into the mood to kill my husband I'd probably make an effort to /turn up/ the volume on the "grieving widow" act.

But whenever the wife behaves like that on Law & Order/CSI/Monk/etc. she's totally guilty. ;)

Given how much overlap there is between entertainment and 'news' on TV, this behavior doesn't surprise me.

I've said it again, I would vote for someone who could identify these posters and surgical sterilize them, so their stupidity does not breed into another generation.

Why is it all these comments sound the same on any news site I visit? It's the same shrill, pedantic tone. I wish the news sites would simply get rid of them. I don't want to listen what the average person thinks, that's what blogs are for. Not everything needs to be rebutted in the fashion of someone not liking a YouTube video.
