Annoying t-shirt seen in the DFAC this morning: "Religion is human; Christianity is God." I've heard this sentiment before, that Christianity isn't "religion" because it's not "man-made".

Really needing an Army-related pep talk and I don't think that there's anyone who can give me one. I talked to my mom this morning and it came up that we have money, a lot of it, taken out of our paycheques to pay for our meals here. I keep forgetting that my mom's a pacifist and still very unsupportive about my having enlisted.

So if someone can suggest things that are actually of benefit to me being in the Army (since leaving isn't an option) I really need to hear them. Bear in mind that my student loan repayment, the rest of my bonus, my GI Bill kicker etc are GONE due to me re-classing. (Actually I might be eligible but our dear, dear COL doesn't want my company to be the one where the lawyers "find loopholes for the enlisted.")

There's still part of me that sees myself as being elevated somewhat above the crowd for having taken this on at my age, so unreasonable as that is, I'm holding on to it. My mom couldn't run 4.6 miles at 43. She couldn't run even one.

Still discouraged though, and I have three years left.

First, that t-shirt saying is the stupidest thing I've heard all week, and this has been a week in which I've heard a lot of stupid.

Second, I'm sorry you're discouraged. I don't know enough about the situation to really give you a pep talk, but I'm hella impressed at the 4.6 miles. At no point in my life could I have done that, and definitely not when I was 43! So you have an opportunity to continue fitness.

Also, I think the enlisted deserve the loopholes, so if you have any way of looking into such without pissing off the COL? Go for it!

I, too, would encourage you - in your spare time, trying not to lol - to find and stretch any loophole.

As for good reasons for being there, according to Forbes, Canada is outperforming the U.S. which is already in a recession. I would presume (or am I being presumptuous as a civilian) that you would be able to ride out a recession while enlisted and your enhanced skill set would be valuable once you return to civilian status.

In any case, I offer you the opportunity to indulge in a bit of schadenfreude (just don't get too carried away, you hear). My life is so in the cellar, partly my stupidity, partly my body falling apart, and partly other stuff. So you're not doing too badly, IMO.

Lots of hugs,
H.

I'm with Helenka on this.

On the other end, I have a great fear and concern for our country if all liberals leave the military. That would mean that only the Rightwingers are left with the really big guns. Take condolence that you are in the right place for you to be right now, and your presence is having a positive influence.

There are many of us back here thinking of you, and holding your best wishes in our hearts.

Not only are you elevated above the crowd for your age, think how many young slackers couldn't do what you can.

You got a hundred on your test.

You WILL do better on the next PT test so you can stay in the running for honor grad.

And... you're not at Fort Benning.

Wish I had the gumption, guts and stamina to do what you're doing.

That T-shirt demonstrates lack of critical thinking. At least if it said something like "God is Love" there'd be more intellectual wiggle room.

If I haven't said it already, your military commitment is appreciated. And I hope things work out with this in the end, with the future change to civilian life.

I have never been in the army, nor is training to kill people with bare hands the same as the PT you are going through. So, I'm going to list somethings that I imagine could bring you some hope.

1) You get to play with things that go boom.
2) You will eventually help other people, which is part of why you enlisted.
3) You will hopefully get paid to do legal services.
4) Maybe the army will have Mecha available before you leave.
5) You'll have your own camoflage if you ever want to go paintballing.
6) Your being enlisted brings justified meaning to Army Intelligence.
7) Since there is only one colour to wear, you never need to worry about what colour clothes to wear while your still enlisted.

Hopefully, one of these silly responces has brought a smile to you. Just remember, You could smile or you could frown it makes little difference to them how you get through the next 3 years, so you might as well pick the one you like. Gambate.
