Happy birthday to me

lady_kishiriaIt's my actual birthday today, but I celebrated yesterday. I got a ride downtown and checked into my hotel (review on Yelp; see my user info page for the link). I dropped off my bags and headed over to the Columbia Museum of Art. The map I had was confusing, but that was fine because electorprince called and I spent about an hour on the phone with him.
After I hung up, I found that it was museum free day. I saw the permanent collection, which is largely filled with early embarrassing works by well-known artists. It's sort of a blooper reel of art history although there were some very neat things, like an early 20th century wardrobe that had a 10-foot post on it, topped by a carved wooden cat and a gigantic blown-glass chandelier in white with pastel highlights that I thought was marvelous.
I got a recommendation from the guy in the museum gift shop to the Blue Marlin, where I had a wonderful meal (again, review is on Yelp). They didn't have any dessert I wanted, so I wandered into an antique store for a little bit.
dmckilli, did I already buy you a Christian Science hymnal? If not, they have one that is very much in my price range that I can get for you.
After that closed, I found a Greek-owned (but not Greek food) restaurant that had galaktoboureko as a dessert, so I had to have that! It's not usually on Greek restaurant menus, so whenever I see it I order it.
I was back in my hotel room at 7, at which point I took a very long shower and sat around naked, unable to access the WiFi.desert_vixen phoned, so I talked to her until my phone started running out of battery.
I still did some reading, watched Metalocalypse and an episode of Venture Brothers I hadn't seen before. I got to sleep around midnight, woke up, had another shower, and ended up having breakfast at McDonald's because that's about all there was. At least half the restos in Columbia seem to be closed on Sundays.
Back now, feeling much better. I'm going downtown next Saturday, responsibilities allowing, to check out the South Carolina State Museum and more of the art museum.
