Admin Week
Aug. 27th, 2008 12:41 pmThis is a week of downtime while AIT are in the field. This means we hang around the barracks and wait to be called up for details. Yesterday I cleaned floors in the schoolhouse out of boredom. Today I watched CNN for a while, then got called for a detail, got dropped from it, asked instead to take some broken floor buffers upstairs to lock in a disused room, and have been on my bunk watching "Legend of the Galactic Heroes" OAVs.
desert_vixen, I'm going to have Steve burn you a copy of the first disc when I get back. It's anime, but if you love Miles Vorkosigan, and I know you do, you may well like this.
On the other hand, my loathing for Reinhardt von Musel-Lohengrimm is getting more and more profound on the simple basis that he's a hypocrite. Cut for spoilers...
He spends his early life denouncing the corruption in the Imperium and the military, speaking out against executing whole families for treason and listening to the common man. He ends his life as Emperor, having started his reign by executing a whole family for treason, and proceeds to install his own dynasty. Why do people like and look up to this guy? He's also a football after his best advisor dies, turning into a lost puppy who gloms co-dependently onto his number one enemy, his friend Hilde, his red-haired pageboy, and anyone else who comes into his orbit who looks like they might help fill the holes in his heart. He's pathetic!
I am, on the other hand, very fond of all his friends.
We get Friday and Monday off. I'll be going to the bookstore again for another 40K novel, since I'm going to finish "Horus Rising" by then. I have a hotel reservation for Saturday and Sunday nights; I'm going to watch Adult Swim! Yay!
Lunch break's over; back to the Imperial capital on planet Odin. At least it snows there.
