I'll post the photos when I get back, because [profile] americanstd has the password only to [profile] spcteppy. The mural came out very, very well.

After lunch, I decided to go back to Books-A-Million because I'm coming to the end of "Horus Rising" and wanted the next in the Horus Heresy series. I'd been told it's a 45 minute walk from the barracks.

Yep, that's about right. 45 minutes and about 3 miles. By the time I got there I smelled like a street person, but I'd gotten to a bookstore without needing a ride from anyone. Alas, they didn't have the second book in the series, but [profile] electorprince (he's fine, just working a lot of hours these days) had told me anything by Dan Abnett is gold, so I picked up another 40K by him, just not the same historical setting. I also got a copy of The Economist, who are lamenting the loss of the old McCain. I was shocked that they didn't have The National Review, but they didn't.

I stopped for a green tea lemonade slush from Starbucks. Yummy.

Laundry's in the dryer and the barracks are quiet. Tomorrow I'm off to the hotel again and I'm not taking my computer at all. Two nights of solitude, no roommates on the cell phone 12 hours a day, and the Adult Swim lineup. I also will be trying at least one new restaurant, so Yelp reviews will follow.

Have a wonderful Labor/Labour Day weekend, er ... not labouring! And does that mean you did a total of 6 miles? In sweltering heat? Oy!

Definitely virtual (and not sweaty) hugs,
H.

Yup. 91 degrees, although the humidity is much worse today. I took a walk that was maybe a mile this morning and I'm soaked.

"Horus Rising". I should check out that series.

When I picture someone named 'Horus', I picture some gangly kid with hippie Wiccan parents who named him that because it was 'powerful', yet the kid now has to answer "So, you named after the Bird God or what?" for the rest of his life.

Until he hits 18, and changes it to 'Horace'.

This Horus is defintely not gangly, no.

Barbara Hambly, in one of her worse efforts (The Rainbow Abyss) had a pimply, ugly kid whose parents named him Baldur.

Thought about calling last night, but couldn't due to roommates. Will do it tonight.

I actually envy you. I could use some solitude... and a restaurant.

I'll trade you for my THREE roommates, one of whom is literally never off her cell phone, on which she has the volume cranked up so loud that I can hear every word the person on the other line is saying, and food so bad that I'm taking fibre pills daily or my digestion comes to a screeching halt.
