Army Division to be assigned "Homeland Duties"

Not a scare tactic, I saw this in "Army Times". Here, Glenn Greenwald writes commentary.

It's not long, so please read.

Hrm. Bush doing it makes me queasy/nervous.

NORTHCOM is not new. It's been hanging around for at least a year and a half (I'm pretty sure it's post-Katrina)and so far everything my unit has had to do with it has been natural disaster/CBRNE stuff.

The units rotating out while they're on their "down time" is something I don't like. There's not much point in saying people have "a year at home" if the whole time they're off training/going to schools/not spending time with their family.

How I feel about the political implications, I don't want to get into on an unlocked post (for the obvious reason).

Of course, though I would be defeating my own purpose if I did lock this post.

I was going to start one on my own LJ, but when I brought up the POST page, I didn't get a block in which to enter text.

Look for it today.

That creeps me out. "Crowd control?" What kind of crowd could possibly need enough control to call in the military? Even if the unit is primarily being used to respond to disasters at the moment, there's nothing stopping it from being used for more Big Brother causes in the future. Ugh.

Army Times was squicked by it too. I'm always struck by how much Army Times tends to say things I'm thinking. Its criticism for how Iraq has been handled has been *scathing*.

This is starting to remind me a bit of the Spanish Inquistion, who developed their tactics and torture techniques dealing with Moors before using them on Jews, Protestants, Spanish Muslims, and other Spainards.

Urgggghhhh... while this didn't exactly come as news to me, it stands as a splendid reminder of why I hate Duncan Hunter so very, VERY much. So much wrong here, I don't even know where to begin... and far too many people failing to see why it is wrong :(

This both scares me and makes my brain hurt.

Posse Comitatus people. Thank you for destroying it.

This worries me. For a large variety of reasons.

This definitely creeps me out; both in the here and now and in future precedent...
