I've been bummed out on and off all week, and I realize it's because of my impending birthday. I'm just not feeling all that celebratory. I'm looking more schooling in the face, possibly having to re-enlist in order to keep the benefits going, and other things I'm not overly keen on doing. As a result I haven't told anyone here that my birthday's tomorrow. I thought about it, but every time I go to tell someone I stop short, and announcing it on the day itself feels tacky. Not to mention that half of us are working.

On the other hand, ever since I arranged a time for people to get together at the MWR and play board games this has been a high point of many peoples' week. We've been playing Trivial Pursuit, but today it was Taboo, in which you have to get your team to guess a word without using any words key to making a description--the "taboo" of the title. That was fun, and work last night was fun because we ran out of documents to work with and ended up just fooling around half the night, when I wasn't working on the LSAT. Downstairs, some people were in the lounge going through a 72-hour movie marathon. Whoever watched the most hours of movies over the weekend would win a t-shirt. I didn't think that sounded like a great time, but brought food and drinks to the contestants.

catdraco, I got the box of Kashi bars. I've sent a thank-you note to your friend, and thank you for setting that up! MAJ T had never had a Kashi bar and now he knows why they're a big deal. I have to make sure CPT S takes a box; she loves them.

Steve's sold half the living room furniture and now has to buy a new, smaller couch. We're looking at one from Ikea that unfolds into a full-sized bed. I plan to buy a nice rug to put on the back to dress it up a bit.

It was a comfortable 113 degrees today. Unfortunately it'll be 119 tomorrow. Let's hear it for the anvil of the sun.

OTOH, Lawrence's alleged response to a reporter who asked why he liked the desert was, "It's clean." Yup, I guess the wind and heat scouring stuff away would do that.

Okay, this comment is for the unannounced birthday. Yes, I'm whispering it. And the balloons promise to be vewy, vewy quiet.

I hope you can do something semi-birthdayish tomorrow, even if it ends up being unorthodox.

Since 2005, I've spent all but one birthday in the Army. I've forgotten what people are supposed to do. So I'm going to just handle this as a normal day off; doing housework, watching videos, and maybe I'll get a piece of cake in Zone 2 where they have a dessert bar, but I dunno. Depends on how nightmarish the heat is.
