Prepping for the job interview

Bear in mind that I'm a Melissa Etheridge style soft butch.

I have put on the makeup, put up the hair, put on the suit, changed the blouse to better show off the matching jewelry, re-done the consequently mussed hair, and am now ready to go.

I mention this and men say, "Yeah, well I gotta wear a TIE."

This earns a kick to the nuts and they don't understand it.

At least I have forsworn suits with skirts so I don't have to wear pantyhose. I do wear skirts mind you, but not to the interview, so that I don't have to add "making sure the legs are completely shaved and that the pantyhose isn't digging into sensitive places" to the repertoire.

I have never understood men who complain about wearing ties. I wear a tie on most days and it requires no effort and no discomfort. Make-up takes for ever and then you have to worry about touching your face.

Meh, I haven't forsworn skirts, just pantyhose. It hasn't lost me any job opportunities.

I'm not exactly what I would call butch, but I'm not femme, either. Actually I identified as third for a number of years, and these days I dress up if I'm going out, otherwise I bum around the house, and I never wear makeup on any occasion (primarily because I have sensitive skin and weird allergies, but also because it's too much of a pain in the butt).

And shaving my legs doesn't happen... often. It never has. Can't use Nair or wax, aforementioned allergies, and shaving seems to trigger eczema outbreaks. I can't win, fortunately I'm with a guy who doesn't mind terribly.

A nice blouse and slacks always does the job for me. Simple, professional, and you can accessorize with favorite jewelry or not.

Well, make-up. I was trained early in that. It's sort of second nature in terms of prepping for the day, but it's simplified over the years to bronzer, eye liner and lip gloss. Most of my face prep these days gets done in the prevention department, before I go to bed.
